The Managing Director of Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), Mr. Md. Abdul Karim, attended the 20 years celebration of PDIM Foundation, a Partner Organization (PO) of PKSF in Dhaka on May 10, 2016. Mr. Karim also inaugurated the new head office building of PDIM and addressed the audience as the chief guest. Mr. Ashraful Hoque, Manager (operations), PKSF accompanied him on this visit. Chairman of PDIM Foundation, Executive Directors of Credit and Development Forum (CDF)and Christian Commission for Development of Bangladesh (CCDB)were also present in the programme.
Mr. Karim, in his speech, noted that microfinance in Bangladesh is characterized by three types of institutional structure- retail, wholesale and regulatory agency. He emphasized on the prevailing wrong perception about charging high interest rate by Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). He said that persons having such a notion have very little idea about this sector. He also said that the Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) has fixed a maximum interest rate of 27% per annum and PKSF has even set the bar at the maximum of 25% for its POs.
Mr. Karim said the MFIs are providing appropriate financing to the unbanked segment of society to achieve sustainability coupled with commitment. He further referred to the visionary leadership of current Chairman of PKSF which seeks to realize an integrated development programme with appropriate financing, capacity building, technology transfer, value chain development and other technical services with the ultimate objective to establish human dignity.
