Workshop on Implementation Strategies of Uplifting the Quality of the Lives of the Elderly People Programme
A workshop on Implementing Strategies of Uplifting the Quality of the Lives of the Elderly People Programme was held on August 12, 2018 at PKSF Bhaban. A total of 260 Focal Person and Programme Officers from 98 Partner Organisations were present in the day-long workshop. From July 1, 2018, the Elderly People Programme has been extended to 234 Unions from 100 Unions.
Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, the honorable Chairman of Palli Karma- Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) inaugurated the workshop. Mr. Md. Abdul Karim, honorable Managing Director of PKSF gave speech as special guest. Mr. Md. Fazlul Kader, Deputy Managing Director (Programme) was present at the inaugural session of the workshop.
In his speech Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad said that in old age, people become incapable in many ways. “These neglected, destitute elderly people should not rehabilitate in old home rather they should be served at their own homes”.
Mr. Md. Abdul Karim in his speech emphasised the importance of inclusive development in sustainable poverty reduction process. Referring to the necessity of the workshop he asked the participants to contribute the workshop effectively. Mr. Karim urged the programme officers to ensure transparency and accountability while implanting the programme in field level. Mr. Abdul Karim said that the elderly programme empowered the local elderly people since all the elderly committees are given the authority to select the beneficiaries of receiving special assistances from the programme.
Mr. Md. Fazlul Kader discussed the background and perspective of the Elderly People Programme. He welcomed the workshop participants and gave necessary guidance to them. Mr. Abul Hasan Md. Abdul Qaiyum, Deputy General Manager (Program), PKSF gave a presentation and discussed on under taken strategies for Uplifting the quality of the Lives of Elderly People Programme at field level. In the workshop, the respective officials gave chapter wise presentation on the Guideline to Implement the Elderly People Programme. There was also a separate session from PKSF Audit Division, where the participants were briefed about budget and re-imbursement procedure.
