Cultural and Sports Programme

As part of inclusive intiatives for sustainable poverty alleviation and beyond-poverty development, PKSF is implementing the `Cultural and Sports Programme’ for children and young people. The Programme patronizes and promotes school-based activities to raise cultural affinity and sportsmanship among the youths.

By involving youth in sports and cultural activites, the Programme aims to create awareness against crimes like terrorism, social ills like harassing women, drug abuse, and violence against women.

The Programme started in March 2016 with 10 Partner Organisations (POs) initially. Having seen its positive effects on poverty alleviation, visible benefits and programme progress, the PKSF Chairman at a national conference held in March 2017 announced expansion of the programme across the country. In light of the organisations’ interest and capacity, 50 more POs were thus included in the programme in July 2017.

The Programme expenses are being borne jointly by PKSF and its POs concerned. PKSF bears 60% of the total cost while the POs bear the rest. The PKSF portion of the money comes from its Special Fund and Programmes-Support Fund and POs bear their part using 10% of surplus of their credit programmes.

The total budget of the Programme is BDT 8.15 crore. The following cultural activities are listed for implementation under the Programme: drawing, hand writing, wall magazine, essay writing, recitation, story-telling, Tagore and Nazrul songs, folk songs, regional songs, acting, dance and debate competition. The sports activities, on the other hand, include table tennis, football, cricket, handball, volleyball, badminton, chess, kabadi, swimming, sprint, sack-race, cow cart racing, boat racing, mini marathon, cycling and other local traditional sports. Each PO has assigned a competent person as the Focal Person to carry out the Programme interventions. Most POs also have a Field Organiser to implement the Programme at the field level.
