PKSF Signed MoU with HelpAge International Bangladesh

 

PKSF-Signed-MoU-with-HelpAge-International-BangladeshA Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and HelpAge International Bangladesh on 30 August 2015 at PKSF Bhaban. Mr. Md. Abdul Karim, Managing Director, PKSF presided over the MoU signing ceremony. Mr. Md. Fazlul Kader, Deputy Managing Director (Ops) of PKSF and Ms. Nirjharinee Hasan, Country Director of HelpAge International signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. Mr. Dilip Paul, Deputy General Manager (Ops) and Mr. Mustafizur Rahman, Assistant Manager (Ops) of PKSF, Mr. Peter McGeachie, Regional Director; Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, Senior Policy Officer; Mohammad Shongibul Alam, Admin, Finance and HR Manager and Shawli Jharna, Program Implementation Manager of HelpAge International were also present in the MoU signing ceremony.

The main objective of this MoU is to strengthen the cooperation between PKSF and HelpAge International in the provision of promoting the rights and entitlements of older people in Bangladesh. Its scope includes joint planning, capacity building, evidence creation and joint policy negotiation to promote the rights of the older people based on the approved “National Policy on Older Persons 2013” as well as PKSF guidelines.

HelpAge International, an UK registered charitable organization, helps older people to claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives. The organization is now working in over 75 countries across the globe including Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, the organization is closely working with likeminded development organizations/institutions to create evidence, develop replicable model and policy/advocacy to uphold rights of the older people.

PKSF has been continuously adding new dimensions to its activities through an evolutionary process. In this backdrop PKSF has decided to add a new feather in its cap by starting a program for older people, especially insolvent and distressed elderly people and the betterment of their lives and livelihood. In accordance with the decision of PKSF Board of Directors, a seminar was held on 02 June 2015 with a view to identifying the challenges and program initiatives that can be taken to ensure the rights and betterment of older people. In Accordance with PKSF Board Meeting decision, 20 unions have already been selected for implementing the aforesaid program targeting elderly people of rural areas across the country.

Implementation of this MoU will help contribute promoting rights of elderly people including the right to live with dignity and the right to enjoy social security articulated in the Constitution of Bangladesh. This MoU seeks to improve efficient and effective interventions by promoting synergies and greater coordination between HelpAge International and PKSF.
